Some Toxic Chemicals Found in e-Waste

  1. Lead (Pb): Lead is commonly found in older electronic devices, especially in cathode ray tubes (CRTs) used in older computer monitors and televisions.   6. Arsenic (As): Arsenic is used in the production of certain types of semiconductors and in older CRT displays. It is a known carcinogen and can also affect the cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervous systems. Long-term exposure to arsenic can lead to various types of cancer, including lung, bladder, and skin cancer.

  7. Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBBs) and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs): PBBs and PCBs were previously used as flame retardants and insulating materials in older electronic devices. These compounds are highly persistent and can accumulate in the environment and the food chain. They have been linked to developmental issues, hormonal disruption, immune system disorders, and potential carcinogenic effects.
