The Need for Lithium Battery Recycling is Rising

eLoop recycles batteries

As more and more electric cars are sold per year, the need for lithium battery recycling is on the rise. In fact, in 2013 China had only two tons of used batteries remaining at all over 20% less than last year! This is significant considering that last year there were five million electric vehicles (EV) produced in America alone, which is a tenfold increase from 2009 when just 13,000 EVs were produced! It also means that every person who bought an EV used one ton of this valuable resource to create it’s energy source instead of using petroleum-based fuel like gasoline or diesel fuel!

The potential for Lithium is enormous! As demand increases, so does production capacity, as companies try to keep up with demand they will need to recycle more and more batteries as well as install new factories. The good news is that there are many different ways of making Li-ion batteries - from recycling old batteries to reusing the electrolytes in old lithium-ion batteries to creating new materials that can be used for both anode and cathode material! As Li-ion battery technology continues to evolve and become more advanced we should see a greater variety of products on the market in the future: ranging from small phones with batteries lasting 10 years to large energy storage systems for renewable energy to industrial uses such as electric vehicles.

While new technologies will appear, the need to recycle lithium batteries for reuse will remain high due to the amount of lithium needed in the future.
